Abstract: The mastering of language skills in a second or foreign language like English has a paramount need to determine professional academic and personal success to face the challenges of this demanding and globalized world. Reading is a struggling skill not only in English but also in Spanish; thus, it requires implementing strategies to empower the learning process. The present qualitative study posits the selection of meaningful reading strategies to increase reading comprehension on teenagers in EFL classrooms in a public school in Guayaquil. We selected five reading strategies we applied during six sessions. The participants were tenth grader-students who eagerly worked for six weeks. Then, after getting their parents’ permission, they were interviewed to know their opinions concerning the applied strategies. Key findings determined that these learners developed practical reading comprehension skills by implementing the selected reading strategies. Moreover, they got preferences for a strategy. Additionally, they recognize the usefulness of reading techniques in other subjects.
