dc.description.abstract In many industrial processes, the quality control action is not a very crucial subject and a control that eliminates the error of stable state and accompanies an acceptable behavior in loopback is sufficient. The regulatory level based on PID controller is able to maintain the process variables next to the given set point values. However, economic reasons and operational constraints make it necessary to optimize plant operations to achieve as much operational efficiency as possible, which represents significant challenges in the control of the industrial processes and the companies that provide and develop control systems have the challenge to face the global competition, new regulations, higher qualities’ standards and an ecological participation responsibility . In this work an analysis will be done of the behavior of model based predictive controller MPC versus the traditional controller PID, using “toolboxs” developed by the company National Instruments with their graphical programming software LabVIEW. The Plant to control is a prototype of tunnel heating constructed for the effect. In order to control the plant will implement a controller MPC and a controller PID using identification, control design, optimization, simulation and data acquisition DAQ LabVIEW toolkits for design, verification and deployment, with the purpose of makes a comparative study with respect to the behavior of them. The comparison with popular PID tuning methods demonstrates the superior performances of predictive control. The control solutions can be easily imported to a real time platform for industrial applications. en
