Abstract: Actually, the industry is looking for technologies that can reduce the pollutant emissions and generate fossil fuel savings, this fact highlights the opportunity to present the emulsified fuels application. This report presents the tanks, equipments and instrumentation required in order to assess the thermal and operative efficiency of a fire tube boiler of 500 BHP of capacity by using the standard ASME PTC 4.1, and comparing the performance of the boiler by using regular Fuel Oil (FO) and Fuel Oil emulsions (FOE). After an evaluation period of 60 days, the following results were obtained: the combustion of FOE 10 produced an average increase of efficiency about 7.93%, NOX reductions of 14%, CO emissions decreased 50% and the generation of particulate matter went down by 18%. The boiler operation was analyzed under different steam loads and water contents on the emulsions, the emissions tests were performed at “hi flame” of the burner.
