metadata.dc.description.abstractenglish: Study for the Definition of Possible Areas for the Exploitation of Stone Materials in Populated Sectors of Santa Cruz, Galapagos." Faced with the potential shortage of stone materials on Santa Cruz Island, the utilization of volcanic scoria cones located on the island is proposed to meet the demand for construction materials. Within this context, this work focuses on the development of an exploitation plan outlining the techniques and methods for sustainable resource extraction. To achieve this objective, 15 cones (C1-C15) were evaluated, of which 5 were selected for the elaboration of the exploitation plan. Among these, Cone 12 (C12) stands out for its abundant resources and favorable technical and environmental conditions for exploitation. With an exploitation rate of 113,000 m³/year, it was estimated that the lifespan of C12 is approximately 83 years, thereby reducing the need to intervene in other cones and minimizing the impact on the island's environment. The exploitation proposal includes a progressive closure plan, enabling the restoration of exploited areas and mitigating environmental impacts on the ecosystem
