Abstract:
In the present study, the technical and economic feasibility of implementing the Plunger Lift artificial lift system in wells of the Gustavo Galindo (Ancón) field is evaluated, with the objective of optimizing oil production in mature reservoirs with a high gas-liquid ratio (GOR). The aim is to take advantage of the associated gas, which is currently released into the atmosphere, to optimize oil recovery in a viable and sustainable way.
The development of the project was based on the analysis of historical production data, the application of selection criteria (extraction system, GLR, production rate, and pressure buildup), and technical simulation with the CASING S.A. software, designing optimal operating cycles for proper system performance. The results showed that wells ANC1648, ANC1260, and ANC1974 were technically feasible, operating between 14–15 cycles/day with pressures ranging from 133–380 psi. However, the economic analysis under optimistic, conservative, and pessimistic scenarios (oil at $62.85/bbl) indicated a negative NPV and an IRR below the discount rate, concluding that the project was not profitable.
Nevertheless, when adjusting the oil price per barrel together with a reduction in investment costs per well, it is concluded that the project can become economically viable, achieving a payback period of 3 years with favorable NPV and IRR indicators.

En el presente estudio se evalúa la factibilidad técnico-económica para implementar el sistema de levantamiento artificial Plunger Lift en pozos del campo Gustavo Galindo (Ancón), con el objetivo de optimizar la producción de petróleo en yacimientos maduros, pozo con alta relación gas-líquido (GOR). Se busca aprovechar el gas asociado, que actualmente se libera a la atmósfera, para optimizar la recuperación de petróleo de manera viable y sostenible.
El desarrollo del proyecto se basó en el análisis de datos históricos de producción, la aplicación de criterios de selección (sistema de extracción, GLR, tasa de producción y restauración de presión) y la simulación técnica con el software CASING S.A. diseñando los ciclos operativos óptimos para un correcto funcionamiento del sistema. Los resultados determinaron que los pozos ANC1648, ANC1260 y ANC1974 son técnicamente viables, operando entre 14-15 ciclos/día con presiones entre los 133-380 psi. Sin embargo, el análisis económico en los escenarios optimista, conversor y pesimista (petróleo a $62,85/bbl) mostró un VAN negativo y una TIR inferior a la tasa de descuento, concluyendo que el proyecto no es rentable.
No obstante, se ajustó el precio por barril de petróleo más una reducción de los costos de inversión por cada pozo, lo que se concluye que, de ser así, el proyecto si puede ser económicamente viable, teniendo un payback de 3 años un con un VAN y TIR favorables.
